i spent my birthday walking emma outside in the beautiful weather, doing yoga, receiving gifts from my family. i spent an hour sitting on the terrace at a restaurant with a glass of wine while i read my book. i ate foods that i love eating here and then i had a couple glasses of wine at the bar down the street with a boy i'm not sure i like. but we played connect four (and i won over and over) and he put his hand familiarly on my leg.
it was a good birthday full of messages of love. i feel fulfilled.
and when you told me happy birthday, when i tried to engage in conversation that did not work, i decided: i can take no as my answer. i can take no, and i can move on. and that in itself is a gift.
