i went on a picnic with javier today. we each brought some snacks -- bread, ham, tomatoes, cheese, tapenade -- and sat on the ile of barthelasse, letting the sun beat down on us as we drank rose wine from the thermal glasses i brought.

and we talked -- completely in french (my confidence has grown, i've finally found my legs here) -- about so many things: dating, marriage, children, the choices we want to one day make.

i'm still not sure about many of them.

but i'm sure about this:

life is about connection. it's really all we have.
