when we came home and entered the pool deck, the two bigger kids shouted my and seth's names, so excited to see us. teagan, my buddy, nearly two years old and normally attached at my hip, just looked at me.

"see?" my mom said. "they forget you when you're gone."

and now, several days later, at tate's sixth birthday party and before that when they were here at home, teagan was immediately in my arms, constantly asking for me.
